THE MEDICAL TEAM Hospice is a proud partner of We Honor Veterans, a coalition of Department of Veterans Affairs facilities and hospice providers. Our mission as a We Honor Veterans partner is to establish a network of hospice and VA professionals, Veterans, volunteers, and other interested organizations working together to provide quality services through the end-of-life for Veterans.
Music therapy can help patients manage the emotional stress and physical pain experienced at the end of life. Through music, patients and their families may express emotions and communicate in a way they have never done before. Music Therapists play instruments, sing, write songs, and utilize other techniques to meet the needs of patients.
Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort and affection to our hospice patients and their families. Petting and cuddling therapy dogs can lift spirits and bring joy to those in emotional situations. Therapy dogs can also help stimulate communication and decrease loneliness in patients who may not have family nearby. Therapy dogs can visit patients wherever they call home.
During the end-of-life journey, patients and their families may find themselves seeking spiritual encouragement or perhaps having spiritual questions. Our Hospice Chaplains provide both non-denominational and denominational, where possible, spiritual care. They seek to serve as active listeners and attempt to meet the expressed spiritual needs of the patient and their families. The Chaplain is gifted at meeting the patient wherever they are in their faith journey and can serve as a link to the patient’s own faith community. Chaplain provided assistance is always according to the requests of the patient and their families.
The loss of a loved one can be devastating. The feeling of grief can be overwhelming and difficult to manage on your own. THE MEDICAL TEAM Hospice offers many services to assist through bereavement. Our trained bereavement counselors are available for support through meetings, phone calls, and email. We also hold memorial services and bereavement support groups. Bereavement services are offered for one year.
Massage therapy provides comfort and relaxation to patients and improves their quality of life. Patients who receive massage therapy often experience reduced pain, anxiety, stress, and fatigue. Massage therapy uses positive touch that can heighten the patient’s mood and provide them with the feeling of being loved and cared for.
Our Flint, MI team hosts an annual grief camp for children. Camp TMT provides a safe place for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one to learn that they are not alone. Volunteers organize “grief work” and fun activities to allow campers to share their stories and learn positive ways to express their feelings.
